Join SOTAC Interactive in partnership with Community
School of the Arts, February 14th - May
14th, 2012, in raising funds
to ensure high-quality arts instruction is available to all children in the
Charlotte area.
For the first time, in 2010, the IMB's global CEO survey found
that the quality most valued by chief executives; the trait they find most
necessary to success, is creativity. Over the last decade Charlotte-Mecklenburg
Schools have reduced or eliminated arts instruction at various levels.
Meanwhile, some parents and students have had to seek access to free art and
music instruction.
Research proves that the benefits of an arts education
include:
· Improved grades
· Improved standardized tests scores
· Better school attendance and participation in extracurricular
activities
· Creativity, innovation, and divergent thinking
· Increased appreciation of and participation in arts
activities as adults
As a result of our nation's recession, more families desiring arts
instruction for their children are now unable to pay for it. Not having the
option of free or affordable instruction, they are turning to Community School
of the Arts for music and arts educations and applying for financial assistance
in record numbers.
Founded in 1969, Community School of the Arts is a non-profit
organization with over 40 years of experience in music and arts instruction. The
School offers private and group music lessons, visual arts classes and
workshops, pottery classes, early childhood arts education, and summer camps. It
is the only organization of its kind in the Charlotte region. With more than
3,200 students last year, the school is one of the largest providers of arts
instruction in the Southeast. CSA has a network of more than two dozen teaching
locations providing workshops, classes, and camps easily accessible to parents
and children from Cornelius to Ballantyne. Aggressive fundraising for outreach
programs, financial aid and merit scholarships have enabled more than one-third
of the student population to enjoy CSA's programs at no cost to them or their
families.
Additional funding is critically important to CSA's ability to
continue to serve all students and to ensure that their excellent programs are
maintained.
Without your financial support Charlotte's children could fail to
reach their full potential as well-rounded, productive adults and supporters of
the arts and culture community. All children, regardless of their families'
resources, deserve the opportunity and advantages of high-quality, hands-on arts
instruction.
